How cash moves through an auto repair shop
Repair shops are paid at pickup, which sounds simple, but the costs come first. Parts are bought for each job or stocked in advance, technicians are paid by the hour or the flag hour, and diagnostic software subscriptions renew whether the bays are full or not. Fleet and commercial accounts often pay on terms, so a shop that grows its fleet work can find itself short while busier than ever.
Equipment drives capacity. A shop with four bays and three working lifts is leaving a bay on the table; an alignment rack or a newer scan tool can bring in work the shop now sends elsewhere.
Auto shop equipment financing and automotive lift financing
Two-post and four-post lifts, alignment machines, tire changers and balancers, diagnostic scanners, brake lathes and air compressors are common requests. Equipment financing uses the item as security; installation and anchoring costs can sometimes go on the same agreement. Used lifts are available, but partners will ask about age, capacity rating and inspection.
Shelves of parts and a tire wall
Fast-moving parts (filters, brake pads, belts, fluids) and a tire wall tie up cash before any job uses them. Inventory financing can carry a stocking order; for parts bought job by job, a line of credit is usually simpler. Ouachita Parish, LA also had 47 automotive parts, accessories and tire store employers in 2023 (County Business Patterns 2023), counted separately from the repair shops.
Working capital for an auto repair shop in Monroe, LA
Payroll for technicians, a slow stretch after a big equipment purchase, or fleet accounts paying on 30-day terms are the usual working capital needs. Customer financing for repair bills is a separate consumer product and is not something Frostdale arranges.

Adding a bay: a worked example
Hypothetical, for illustration only: a shop adds a fifth bay with a $9,600 lift and a $4,800 tire changer and balancer, $14,400 in equipment. Over 48 monthly payments that is $300 a month before any finance charge. If the bay books eight extra hours a week at a $95 labor rate, it brings in about $3,290 a month in labor alone. A partner will want to see that the shop has the technician hours to fill the bay, not just the lift.
What partners commonly read: bank statements, the equipment quote, a list of fleet accounts and their terms, existing equipment payments, and time in business.
Fleet accounts and the receivables they create
Fleet and commercial work fills bays on slow weekdays and brings repeat business, but it changes the shop's cash cycle. A walk-up customer pays at pickup; a fleet account is usually invoiced and paid on 30-day terms, sometimes longer. A shop that adds three or four fleet accounts can find a month of parts and labor sitting in receivables.
When that happens, a working capital loan or a line of credit bridges the gap, and an aging report listing each fleet account and its terms is the document partners read first.
